The Etrog box was designed in 1950. The oval container measures 5½” in height and 6½” in length and is made with sterling silver, red garnets and turquoise stones.

This piece is an ultimate representation of Yaacov's unique integration of traditional techniques learned from his collaboration with Yehia and his own increasingly more modern interpretation of form and function. He preserves the tension between the smooth silver surface and the decorative framework by means of intricate filigree embellishment set with precious stones. The Biblical quotation around the perimeter of the box describes the mitzvah of the use of the etrog.

“And ye shall take for yourselves on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook...” Leviticus 23:40

The Four Species (Arba'at Ha-Minim) are three types of branches and one type of fruit which are held together and waved in a special ceremony during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

Lulav (לולב) – a ripe, green, closed frond from a date palm tree 

Hadas (הדס) – boughs with leaves from the myrtle tree 

Aravah (ערבה) – branches with leaves from the willow tree 

Etrog (אתרוג) – the fruit of a citron tree: the etrog has both a good taste and a good smell, symbolizing those who have both Torah and good deeds.

The cup in this set was designed in the 1960's and the candlesticks were first created in 1998, explicitly designed to complement our renowned filigree Kiddush cup which our studio had been making for over sixty years. It is made of sterling silver, gold-plated silver and garnet stones; ten on the cup and seven on each candlestick. The cup is 5¾" high and the candlesticks are 10” high. The cup has been a bestseller and flagship piece for six decades: the addition of matching candlesticks has made this set one of our most classic and preferred creations.
