This Spice box was designed in 1920. It measures 8” high and is made of sterling silver.

The Havdalah ceremony at the conclusion of the Shabbat features a special blessing over a spice receptacle.  Of the numerous forms of such receptacles, the most common are tower-shaped, usually emulating the towers of European cities. Yehia Yemini transcended this tradition with his spice container which echoes the Yemenite bridal head-dress. A simple and highly integrated conic structure, it consists entirely of tight filigree lace and numerous silver balls interwoven in undulating ornamentation. A bird added to the head of the cone is Yehia's sole concession to the East European tradition of rooftop birds.  Otherwise, he remains faithful to Yemenite silverwork, including the silver balls he utilizes as bridal decorations, dangling from the "waist" of the spice container.
